On December 4, 2014, Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander held a press conference at the Missouri State University Archives to discuss the Local Records Program. As an intern with the Missouri State Archives, based at MSU, I was privileged to be one of the speakers at the press conference. University President Clif Smart opened the session, followed by MSU archives director David Richards. Jason Kander then spoke about the successful collaboration between the university and the state government and how the partnership is working to preserve historical county records in southwest Missouri. I closed the press conference with a brief synopsis of what I learned through my internship with the state archives and emphasized the benefits for students and researchers in ensuring the availability of Missouri’s historical records.
